Cooking and Housekeeping Training

Culinary training is provided to equip young women with cooking skills and knowledge for employment in the food industry.

Cooking classes

Cooking classes teach teen mothers how to prepare nutritious and balanced meals for themselves and their children. Understanding the nutritional needs of their children is an essential aspect, which can help in providing healthier meals and promoting their children’s growth and development. They learn cooking techniques, recipe development, and meal planning. As part of the cooking and housekeeping classes, students also learn how to prepare different kinds of food, including African dishes, in addition to dishes from other cultures and countries like French cake for instance.

Moreover, the girls learn about catering services since some visitors come to the centre which requires them to prepare the food, set the table and serve the guests. Cooking classes may cover basic to advanced culinary skills, allowing teen mothers to explore a potential career path in the food industry.

Furthermore, since some girls may be employed in hotels, the center provides housekeeping classes. Housekeeping classes for teen mothers often cover a range of skills and knowledge that are essential for maintaining a clean and organized living environment, which can be particularly valuable for those who aspire to work in the hospitality industry, such as hotels. They are taught skills related to cleaning, tidying, and maintaining a safe and healthy home environment. Teaching teen mothers the importance of paying close attention to detail when cleaning, which is crucial for maintaining a high standard of cleanliness in hotel rooms. By learning these skills in housekeeping classes, teen mothers can prepare themselves for future employment in hotels and other similar establishments. Hotel employers often value candidates with a strong foundation in housekeeping, as it is a critical aspect of guest satisfaction and overall hotel operations. These classes not only equip teen mothers with practical skills but also offer a pathway to economic independence and career growth.

Six months after completing Faraja’s course, the teen mother will spend three months working in hotels and restaurants in Tanzania to learn more about customer service.
